About
Demandware
Demandware was a cloud‑based ecommerce software company founded in 2004 to enable companies to build and manage online commerce websites without owning or maintaining infrastructure. It provided hosted ecommerce technology — including tools to run online storefronts, manage digital sales, and support mobile commerce — delivered as software‑as‑a‑service.
In 2016 Salesforce acquired Demandware for approximately $2.8 billion, and the technology became the foundation of what Salesforce calls Commerce Cloud. Today the former Demandware platform lives on as part of Salesforce Commerce Cloud’s ecommerce offerings for brands and retailers looking to manage online sales across channels.
Let’s talk platform selection
Take the first step toward smarter, more connected digital commerce
Why businesses choose Demandware for B2B
Demandware technology (as part of Salesforce Commerce Cloud) is selected by businesses that require a cloud‑native ecommerce solution with scalable infrastructure and integrated customer engagement tools. It supports:
- Cloud‑based ecommerce delivery — hosted SaaS model that removes the need for customers to manage servers and platform updates.
- Unified commerce experiences — tools to manage digital storefronts, mobile commerce, and multi‑channel commerce from a single platform.
- Personalised shopping journeys — AI‑driven personalisation to tailor recommendations and experiences across customer interactions.
- Integration with CRM and marketing tools — part of the broader Salesforce ecosystem for connected customer data and commerce operations.
- Multi‑site and international support — capabilities for businesses to run multiple storefronts with localisation, languages, and currencies.
These features allow businesses to deliver consistent, engaging shopping experiences online while scaling operations and connecting commerce data with broader enterprise systems.
Notable organisations using Salesforce Commerce Cloud (Demandware heritage): Adidas, Puma, and L’Oréal (representative examples of brands publicised as Commerce Cloud users — though platform branding has evolved).
